I am just wondering if anyone out there would happen to have a photo of Sgt J W (John Wallace )Henry. NZ405266, Tail gunner on Lancaster W4230 , Lost over Denmark on september 24th 1942.
Thanks to this great site i have found out so much....but i cant put a face to the name.
Also, if there are any photos of W4230 , that would be great.
I really dont want him to fade away, so any help would much appreciated.

Kind regards.
Martin J Henry

Martin.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your post. Out of interest, what relation are you to Sgt JW Henry?

I've found the following information on his aircraft, I apologise if it is not new information to you!

Serial Range W4102 - 4700 This aircraft was one of a batch of 450 Lancasters ordered from A.V.Roe (Chadderton) in January 1940 of which 207 were built as Lancaster 1 and delivered from July to November 1942 initially fitted with Merlin 20 engines. W4230 was delivered to No.9 Sqdn 21Sep42 This aircraft was lost on its first operation. When lost W4230 had a total of five recorded hours. Airborne from Waddington (time not recorded). Crashed in the Baltic to the N of the Danish island of Lolland. Two bodies, those of Sgt Higson and Sgt Henry RNZAF, were washed ashore and both are buried in Svino Churchyard. Their companions are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, where F/O Smith RNZAF is shown as belonging to No.83 Squadron. F/S O.B.White RNZAF KIA Sgt G.W.A.Higson KIA F/O H.F.B.Smith RNZAF KIA F/S J.A.Beaton KIA Sgt J.W.Henry RNZAF KIA Sgt J.C.Gray RNZAF KIA Sgt N.H.Crozier RNZAF KIA

His details are recorded on the CWGC website and can be found by clicking this link

Sadly very few of the photographs that IX(B) Squadron hold for that era of operations have names on them. However I will research this more and contact you if I manage to locate one in the archives. Also with W4230 only having 5 flying hours on her when she was lost, finding photos of her might prove difficult.
